Alpine Segelflugschule Schänis AG at Flugplatz Schänis is the Swiss competence center for comprehensive glider training from beginner to advanced alpine soaring. The professional flight school offers flexible basic training, self-launcher training on motorized gliders, and motor flight training with the world’s first certified electric aircraft, the Pipistrel Velis Electro.
They operate year-round flights with a modern fleet including gliders, self-launching gliders, motor gliders, and electric aircraft. Courses include week-long and weekend programs, theoretical lessons, and advanced training for flight instructor candidates, passenger flight endorsements, aerobatics, and self-launcher qualifications.
The airfield features a 520 m paved runway and an auxiliary paved strip suitable for reliable operation. Several clubs and associations are based at Schänis, including the largest Swiss gliding group (Segelfluggruppe Lägern), the Swiss Aerobatic Gliding Association (SAGA), the Oldtimer Club Schänis (OCS), the Elektro-Hänggleiterverein Schänis (EHGS), and the Schänis Model Flyers (SMF).
Schänis offers motivated community support, excellent facilities, and an ideal location at the foot of the Glarus Alps for extensive pilot training and motor flying with environmental innovation.
