Flugplatz Schänis is the Swiss competence center for gliding, offering comprehensive training from basic instruction to advanced alpine gliding and aerobatics. The professional flight school provides flexible basic training, self-launcher training on motorized gliders, and motor flight training with the world's first certified electric aircraft, the Pipistrel Velis Electro. The fleet ranges from vintage gliders to high-performance models and electric planes, supported by around 30 experienced flight instructors.
The airfield features a hard-surface runway, a well-organized daily flight operation during the season, and excellent infrastructure suitable for both beginners and advanced pilots. The Segelfluggruppe Lägern is the largest gliding club at the airfield, operating a modern fleet specialized in advanced and cross-country gliding. Several other specialized clubs operate here, including aerobatics, oldtimer gliders, electric hang gliders, and model flyers.
Passenger flights are available on gliders, motor gliders, and powered aircraft. The school also offers online theory courses and informative webinars. Special junior programs provide financial benefits and mentorship to young pilots.
Flugplatz Schänis is an ideal location for pilots seeking to learn gliding, improve their skills, or enjoy alpine soaring with a supportive and engaged community.
