Landing out

Every cross-country pilot lands in a field one day. Decide in time, check the field from the air, fly a normal circuit into it, and know what to do once you are down.

What you learn

• Pick an area by 600 m, a field by 450 m, commit at 300 m
• Check size, slope, surface and surroundings from the air
• Spot wires by their poles and the gaps in the trees
• Fly a normal circuit: ballast out, wheel down, land uphill
• Secure the glider, call the crew, find the farmer
