Taxi and run-up

0 viewsOct 7, 2026

Steer the 172 on the ground with the rudder pedals and toe brakes, and hold the control wheel the way the handbook shows for wind from ahead or behind. Then the run-up at 1,800 RPM: the magneto check, the gauges and the checklist around it.

What you learn

  • Steer with the pedals: about 10° alone, up to 30° with a toe brake
  • Set the control wheel for wind from ahead and from behind
  • Check the magnetos: at most 150 RPM drop, 50 RPM between them
  • Know why no drop at all is a warning
  • Place the run-up in the before-takeoff checklist
