The walk-around

The preflight inspection of the 172S in the handbook's order: cabin, tail, right wing, nose and left wing. What to check at each of the eight stops, and how to test the stall warning.

What you learn

• Walk the 172S preflight in the handbook's order, stop by stop
• Set up the cabin: brake, control lock, master, fuel gauges, flaps
• Check control surfaces, tyres, fuel samples and caps
• Check oil (at least 5 qt), propeller, air filter, static port
• Test the stall warning with a clean handkerchief
