Climb speeds

Best angle and best rate of climb in the 172S, Vx 62 and Vy 74 KIAS at sea level, and how both change with height up to the ceilings. Then the everyday climb at 75 to 85 KIAS and the mixture in the climb.

What you learn

• Fly Vx 62 KIAS over obstacles, Vy 74 KIAS for height per minute
• Know how Vx and Vy change up to 10,000 ft, and where they meet
• Fly the normal climb at 75 to 85 KIAS, and know why
• Keep the mixture rich below 3,000 ft, lean above it if needed
